What our guests have said about the Villa

_MG_4806.jpg

This villa is so beautiful and peaceful. Opening the doors and windows to the ocean each morning was the best start to our day. Watching the sunset from the roof deck was magical. The beaches in the area are some of the most beautiful we have ever seen, and there were barely any people on them. Such an amazing place to stay.
Danielle, January 2024 (Airbnb)

Villa Passiflora is exactly as magical as it looks in the pictures. My family of four had the most incredible time staying here. The place was exactly how it was depicted in the pictures. Waking up every morning to the view and sound of the ocean was just what we needed. The pool was just perfect to cool off in and the walk to the beach is literally 5 minutes, with a beautiful little cove that we always had to ourselves. The staff was so kind and helpful, but left us to ourselves unless we needed something. I hope to come back again. The island of Dominica is a special place, and the town of Calibishie was our favorite town, we got to know many of the locals and they are a kind, lovely people. We even hit up the local karoke night, which was a highlight for us. We traveled all over the island in our 10 days there and would definitely stay in Calibishie when we go back.
Danielle (a different Danielle!), November 2023 (Airbnb)

We found this home even more lovely than the pictures. There was fresh local fruit and delicious juice waiting for us. The views from every room in the house were spectacular. We loved spending most of our time while “home” on the patio overlooking the infinity pool and the ocean beyond. There were three employees to help make our stay perfect; Sherlon, Brianna, and Markeisha. Jason came and made meals for us twice, otherwise we cooked for ourselves. We spent our days hiking to waterfalls and “pools”, driving to different snorkeling beaches. Calib, the organic farmer brought fresh vegetables to us to buy and we immediately used some to make dinner with. We bought from the local markets and a lot of chocolate from the nearby chocolate factory. Perfect for gifts. I can see why people come back often.

This home is absolutely fantastic! The attention to detail is over the top and the view outstanding! We had the privilege of meeting the owners of the Villa and I wish we had more time with them! They are as beautiful as their home and hope to cross paths again! The staff of the home is OVER THE TOP!!! We loved them and now call them friends! Make sure you have them prepare a meal or two for you when there! We can’t wait to return and see this beautiful place again!

The view was everything. The villa has that island rustic look and feel. The Village or center is about 5 mins away by car, you can find local restaurants, bars, supermarkets and a little gas station there. Dominica’s windy roads are not for the weak hearted, very doable if you take your time, if not, I recommend taxis. Sherlon is a super responsive property manager and will help with anything you need (tours, food, etc). I strongly recommend the tours with Nigel. He was a delight, absolutely THE best. He knows Dominica like the back of his hand and we felt very safe with him. And everyone around the village has nothing but good things to say about him. It is island living so there is no air conditioning, but there is the breeze from the sea and fans in each room. Dominica is a rain forest so mosquitos and little critters are to be expected. I absolutely loved staying here and I highly recommend it!

If you're looking for amazing indoor/outdoor living with fantastic Caribbean views and architecture that makes full use of the natural environment (lighting, cool sea breeze and views), you HAVE FOUND IT!! Bruce's place is beautifully designed and allows for the indoor space to open fully into the outdoor space. The kitchen and overall home is fully equipped with everything that you would need and more. The staff is very attentive and and assisted us with everything we asked for and about, while still maintaining our privacy. The rooms are all self-contained and also located in such a way that lends to privacy for guests when needed, if staying as a large group. The pool, hammock, lounging chairs, grill, bar and views together with great hospitality and a beautiful and clean home helped us to have a great, relaxing time. We were a large group and everyone was comfortable. The caretaker Sherlon was so polite, friendly and professional and was there for everything we needed at a moment's notice. The housekeeper Isaline checked in everyday and left us with some welcoming local fruit juices. There are so many more good things that could be said about our stay at Villa PassiFlora, so come experience it for yourself. Dominica is a beautiful, nature loving island with friendly, hospitable people and great local food and Villa PassiFlora is an excellent place to enjoy the best of everything.

Our stay at Villa Passiflora was nothing short of exceptional! The house is gorgeous, spacious, and comfortable, the view is phenomenal, the grounds are lush and the sea is a five-minute walk through the forest! Ann, Sherlon and Bruce think of everything, from meal planning to activities to fresh cut flowers in your room. Even thoughtful details like noticing you've brought some coconuts home and calling to ask if you'd like the coconut water transferred to a jug in your fridge! We couldn't have been better taken care of, or had better company during our visit. Dominica is an incredibly special place and you’ll be in a perfect location to explore it from. We can't wait for our next trip to Villa Passiflora!

The finest house we’ve ever rented or stayed in. Period.

First: it’s situated perfectly on a hillside overlooking the ocean. It’s just a few minutes from a dramatic shoreline down a path slashed through the jungle. A five-minute traverse over a rocky outcropping gets you to a secluded, and often, empty beach bordered by a beautiful red-rock wall on the far side. And the village of Calibishie is the nicest we visited on the island

Second: it’s designed with a focus on bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out. Each bedroom opens onto a veranda that provides a 180 degree view of the water. We slept every night for three weeks with both sets of doors open to the breeze and awoke to the sound of the surf and the morning light.

Third: each bedroom is spacious and lovingly appointed. Each with their own bathroom.

Fourth: the attention to design detail is amazing. Local hardwoods harvested from trees felled by a hurricane. A century-old front door sourced from a former bank. Lovely stonework in the showers.

Fifth: the pool. A pleasant spot to relax and cool off, or hang out nearby in one of the hammocks built for two.

Finally: the hosts and their staff. Attending to our every request but never hovering. Available at our call but never intruding. They provided us with fresh juices and even located wonderful freshly baked bread and local goat cheese. They arranged for drivers and tours. They were quick to recommend places to shop for food and local restaurants.

We will return but next time we won’t make the mistake of only booking for three weeks.

We’re back in frigid Michigan and missing Dominica.

Our family of 5 from Toronto stayed at Villa Passiflora for a week over the Christmas holidays and we can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. The home and grounds are very well taken care of and the accommodations were exceptional. The owners have gone through a lot of effort to make the villa very comfortable and encourage people to fully enjoy the island. We especially enjoyed the hammocks and the beautiful ocean view.

Dominica is a beautiful island that beckons to be explored and Calibishie is a great home base to reach deserted cove beaches and access to good restaurants.

The house has been so thoughtfully designed and adorned. Great original art and furnishing. Each bedroom feels like a private suite, creative design and details everywhere. Soaking in the pool and watching the surf ebb and flow is exactly what was needed...morning, noon, and at night! The staff was considerate and knowledgeable about the many adventures waiting down the road....or simply down a path off the garden...there is a small beach just below the house that is so very exclusive and private (rarely saw anybody there). Unique to the Caribbean Red Rock that cascades into the turquoise water...guess what a Chocolate plantation is a short stroll from the house...seriously a CHOCOLATE PLANTATION! It is a small affair but so neat! Delicious variety to sample, you can do the tour or simply swing by after hiking the red rock park for some to take home...a funky little restaurant PoZ' with a friendly owner (and cats and a sweet dog not to mention a pool next to the bar just waiting for anyone to take a dip), rotating menu which almost always includes locally caught lobster, is right up from the house. We cooked our own meals more than half the time, given local fish, produce, and the wonderful kitchen...but also enjoyed short drives to cafes strung up and down the many villages flanking the property in both directions (keep in mind this is not Florida, some cafes were basically sand floor shacks with amazing food and people, be sure to have the house staff recommend where is best). We always found the locals not just friendly but genuinely interested in where we were from and what we thought of the island...most also had to "witness" to us the tragic experience of the hurricane 18 moths earlier. It is amazing how quickly the island has bounced back from the tragic storm.

I should add that the house felt very safe and secure, The owners have a beautiful dog which is intentionally kept separate from the guests through training and invisible fencing....each room has its own key (keep in mind the house is wide open to the trade winds), but we never felt like we needed to "lock-down" the property, although we still did given our city habits. I cannot exaggerate the beauty of this property or the peacefulness of our trip....other than dining at the Secret Bay resort one day (which I would highly recommend for a special evening), every inch of this island seemed unspoiled and unassuming. I could go on, and on, and on.....massages on the deck, cocktails in the pool, a swim in a crystal clear stream, a hike to an amazing waterfall, snorkel off the west coast, lunch in Portsmouth, octopus soup (only on Saturdays) at a tiny bar on a secluded beach down the road picturesque drive to opposite side of island to check out Roseau, domino match in Claibishie....did i mention the Red Rocks and the adjacent Chocolate Plantation...don't hesitate renting this home!

My family ( 4) just spent a lovely week at Pasi Flores. The house is spectacular as are the views. It is very comfortable, and has everything you need for a wonderful vacation. Of special note are the people that work at the house. Iseline the housekeeper is wonderful, and be sure and ask her to cook a meal for you. Sharlone the groundskeeper and all around helper is also great. And, not be forgotten is Nigel who the owner recommends as a guide. Nigel made our trip and was indispensable as we tried several hikes and tours.

This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed- from the house itself with its lovely, interesting artistic touches and beautiful louvered windows and doors to a stunning ocean view across fantastic gardens. The kitchen and bathrooms and decks with hammocks and swimming pool are all simply unbelievable. It’s a quick walk to the beach on one side and interesting rocks to explore on the other. We will be back!

The villa is exquisite. The location and views are breathtaking, the villa is superbly designed with beautiful finishes. It is the perfect base to explore the gorgeous nature isle.

Staying at the Villa Passiflora was so incredible that it felt like a dream. Every morning we would wake up and say, “Is this real life?!” My parents had the master suite upstairs, and my BF and I stayed in the suite on the bottom floor near the infinity pool and a hammock. The house had everything from high-quality linens and beach towels to a well-appointed kitchen. When we arrived, the hosts had filled baskets with fresh fruit.

One of the first things we did was to walk down to the rocky outcropping amidst the crashing waves. You can also walk to Hodges Beach, and several other beaches are just a short drive away. For nightlife, you can walk up the road to Poz Restaurant, which features excellent food, cocktails, and karaoke!

Our suite was very comfortable and airy and we were soothed to sleep by the loud ocean surf. With three separate suites, this house is large and airy and perfect for three couples.

The housekeeper, Isoline, is super-sweet and friendly and a great cook. They have two large guard dogs to protect the property. As other reviewers have written, the dogs do bark sometimes, but they make you feel safe.

The two levels of decks both have incredible views of the crashing waves. We even saw a vivid double rainbow! Some guests have spotted whales. The top of the house even has an observation deck from which we drank Kubuli and watch the sunset.

We feel so lucky that we got to spend a week at the Villa Passiflora and would love to come back someday.

What our guests have said about the Cottage

IMG_20210117_071350.jpg

We really enjoyed the open air indoor/outdoor living space. The area is set away from the road, most of the time all you hear is the ocean and the sound of nature. Hummingbirds galore with other birds coming to visit at times. The kitchen was equipped with what you need, although we had to buy cooking oil. A lovely touch with the beach towels and the homemade juice. The friendly and service minded caretaker Sherlon is on site and helped us with what we needed, promptly and nicely. All in all a great stay!
Mathias, December 2023 (Airbnb)

Beautiful private cottage, in nature, with a view of the sea. You wake up to the dawn chorus of birds with the sound of waves in the background. Great communication too.
Liz, March 2023

This is a wonderful small villa on a beautiful estate with gracious and interesting owners. I would highly recommend. The walk down to the beach is not particularly difficult, and the beach offers interesting exploring and beautiful photo opportunities. We enjoyed Calibishie, a different feel than Roseau Valley area. There are some good food options and a couple small general stores for basics. A couple things to know--the villa is spacious, and open air, with a mosquito net over the bed. Beautiful views to the northeast of the coast, and stars/planets/moon at night. The owners and one caretaker live on the property and are available for recommendations or assistance, but respectful of privacy.
Jeff, February 2023

The Cottage at Villa Passiflora was amazing! It was a beautiful open air cottage. We loved the constant sound of the waves, and could see the ocean from our windows. We didn't have any bugs in the house. Sherlon was very kind and helpful. The short walk to the beautiful rocky cliffs are breathtaking! We enjoyed rock scrambling and exploring Red Rocks, the beach, Calibishie and the Point Baptiste chocolate factory.
Matthew & Melody, December 2022

The Passiflora cottage is a gem in beautiful Calibishi! The location is perfect, within walking distance to beautiful beaches and volcanic rocky shoreline. The views of the ocean are spectacular. The space had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing getaway. We would definitely stay here again!

This cottage was gorgeous, clean and incredibly well attended. Bruce was a wonderful host, super accommodating and responsive and cannot wait to come back again!
Benedetta, March, 2019 (Airbnb)

We loved staying at the cottage. It was gorgeous !! Lovely design and local artistic touches - loved the calabash painted lights, the beautiful bouquet of local flowers on the table, the delicious bottle of juice in the fridge, the wooden louvered windows. The bathroom was divine... and the convenience of having a washing machine was perfect :) I was lucky to be visited by a hummingbird who flew into the bedroom and looked at me while i was looking at her in the mirror (!) just magical....

Villa Passiflora was our favorite stay on Dominica. The cottage is stylish, comfortable, and well-appointed. The surroundings are private and beautiful, only a short walk from Point Baptiste Beach and a very nice restaurant. The staff is helpful and responsive. Highly recommend!
Tammy, August, 2019 (Airbnb)

5 stars across the board. not only is there a view, but also the sound of waves crashing on the beaches below the property. the space is beautiful, comfortable and convenient to eating and shopping. (for those without cars, the property is close to a bus stop, there is bar/restaurant within a 3-minute walk and town is about 15 minutes on foot). for those with a car, calibishie is well situated for exploring the island. i liked the cottage so much, i extended by a week. it is exactly the dominican experience i was looking for.
