Villa PassiFlora Rental

Dec. 16, 2017: I’m just back from spending a week at our beloved Dominican home, and I’m pleased to report that our recovery is proceeding remarkably well. The villa survived Maria with little damage. Most importantly, our solar power system was not damaged, and it is providing power for lights and refrigeration without the noise or smell of a generator. Our landscape has proven resilient. The return of green—and red, yellow, purple, and pink—has been astounding. The path to beautiful Pointe Baptiste beach is clear, and the beach itself is lovely. The breeze, the sound of the ocean and the view from the villa are as magnificent as ever. These photos on the VP Facebook page are all from the trip… and no Photoshop!

Many folks have asked what they can do to help Dominica recover from Maria. For those who can, nothing would be more helpful than to visit. Conditions vary considerably from village to village, but in Calibishie, the two groceries are well stocked, and wonderful island meals are available at POZ and Coral Reef. The rum shops are open. The villagers we know are anxious to welcome visitors, and tourist dollars are a very direct way to help with with the recovery.

Dominica remains far from “back to normal”. There are many homes and businesses that bear scars from Maria. The landscape in some areas is battered. This is not the time to visit if your intent is to hike the National Trail (though there are hikes opening, and our guide can help you enjoy them). We are very much the exception outside of Roseau in having power, and even our solar needs to be used thoughtfully, or you might run low.

With that said, Villa PassiFlora can provide extraordinary beauty and relaxation right now. There has been talk of “voluntourism”, and that’s a splendid idea, but simply by visiting with an open heart and spending some money on the island, you will make a very meaningful positive impact on the island.

Villa PassiFlora is open for guests January 1, 2018! And we’re offering up to 50% off our standard rates. For visits in January, February and March 2018, calculate the standard rate below, then deduct 50%. For April, May and June, deduct 40%. For July, August, September and October, deduct 30%.
